For a second day Ronnie & Peter Downies allowed us to invade their wonderful farm which has provided a spectacular arena for some challenging orienteering. We would like to thank them for welcoming us, for their hospitality and for some great burgers!

Mar Orienteering Club, East Lothian Orienteers, Ayrshire Orienteering Club and Solway Orienteers and Auld Reekie Orienteering Society pulled out all the stops to organise the day and we would like to thank their members for their enthusiasm and commitment. It seemed to be all worthwhile given some of the comments: “well planned courses”, “wonderful views”, “the best Orange course ever”, “delicious blaeberries”, “great array of traders”, “string course was fantastic”.

The two long format days have proved testing for many and everyone is probably looking forward to shorter courses tomorrow, although they will probably be just as technical! The planners and controllers have spent many glorious days in the area and were delighted that the weather allowed everyone to see it in all its glory. Some competitors obviously found some of the terrain tough which is the nature of Glen Fearder, especially in the open areas.  The forest (known as the Balloch plantation) was easier going but more technical which is reflected in the results. It is probably more typical of the next few days.

Having had some strong runs on Days 1 and 2, the competition for the overall prizes is heating up.

We have some beautiful prizes produced by GeogSaw

The M/W21E features the Deeside area while the other classes feature Lochnagar.  Do visit the GeogSaw shop online to see more.

Finally the organisers would like to thank everyone for keeping the arena area looking immaculate. Thank you!

Make sure you read the Day 3 information which is available online.
