Day 5 Overview
Overview - Day 5 - Craig a Barns
Craig a Barns was the birthplace of Scottish orienteering and has seen many excellent events since 1962. The map extract and control description from 1968 (extracted from a recent article at https://www.scottish-orienteering.org/membership/score-magazine/ shows that we have made some progress in mapping since the year I started orienteering and it was great to see a top-level World Ranking Event won by two of our GB athletes who are Norway-bound for WOC 2019.
Day 5: Craig a Barns
Fri 2nd Aug
Today is a World Ranking Event.
The birthplace of Scottish orienteering, and widely regarded as one of the best orienteering areas in the country. Craig a Barns was used for the Scottish Championships in 1962 and was the first specially mapped area for orienteering in Scotland. The area has played host to various events, including the Jan Kjellstrom 1990 and more recently JK2012.
The Livestream today is focused on the M/W 21 Elite but not exclusively.
PLEASE NOTE:
Within the competition area, there has been an occurrence of pythopthera ramorum, a deadly pathogen causing major problems in parts of Scotland.
See https://forestry.gov.scot/sustainable-forestry/tree-health/phytophthora-ramorum
To help contain the possible spread of this pathogen we request that all competitors thoroughly wash their boots/shoes with water prior to leaving the event area at Craig a Barns. All soil and needle remains are to be cleaned from footwear and clothing. An area to do so will be provided at the end of the course.
Live Video Streaming
and GPS Tracking
The aim of the Livestream is to cover the breadth and depth of orienteering that we see every two years at the Scottish 6 Days. Therefore, the coverage will focus on different age classes each day. As well as the Livestream there will be GPS tracking available separately.
Please check if you have been selected to carry a tracker.
See below for the links to each days coverage.
