Day 6 Overview - Grandtully - Final Edition
Grandtully has previously been connected with canoeing the rapids but there was a new type of downhill race with the final day of Strathearn 2019 in close proximity to the river. For yet another day the weather held out and the Middle Distance race was a fantastic finale to what has been a hugely successful Scottish 6 Days.
Day 2 Jury Decision
The Day 2 Organiser has received 4 protests about the decision to void the legs across the river. The Day Organiser and Controller decided that they did not agree with the protests and convened the jury who have now reached the following decision:
Day 4 Report
Overview - Day 4 - Culteuchar and Dron
We promised a variety of terrain types and a few surprises. Culteuchar & Dron was very different from the past few days and offered fast running over closely cropped grassland before descending into the woods. And what a finish – who would believe 2,500 orienteers would end up in someone’s back garden?
Wednesday - Rest Day Overview
Orienteers enjoyed a day of Munro bagging/golf/mountain biking/visiting distilleries/souvenir shopping/castles/Sprint Orienteering and Trail O (delete as appropriate). For others it was a case of setting up for the next few days – expect a surprise with the Day 4 race arena.
Congratulations to all who took part in the Rest Day TrailO and many thanks to the volunteers who made it happen. There were some strong performances and the winners were:
Seniors: 1. Matthew Pickering (UBOC), 2. Ian Ditchfield (MV), 3. Chris Embrey (MDOC)
Juniors: 1. River Edis-Smith (MDOC), 2. Samuel Leitch (SO), 3. Anna Harris (DEE)
Special mention goes to Matthew who completed a clean sheet of correct answers on both the TempO and Pre-O courses.
Full results will be on the web.
Prizes for the top 3 seniors and juniors will be presented at the 6 Day prizegiving on Day 6. If any of the winners are unable to be there, leave a message at registration and we'll arrange for you to collect your prize from there.
Day 3 Report
Beautiful weather, a stunning race arena and some of the best orienteering terrain in Scotland. Today’s event near St Fillans had it all, with the added attraction of a World Ranking Event Middle Distance race (and Middle Distance for us all which was a welcome relief after two tough days).
Scottish 6 Days 2019, Strathearn
Sun 28th July to Sat 3rd August
The 22nd Scottish 6-day event is being held in Strathearn, between the 28th July and 3rd August 2019. Two World Ranking Events will be staged during Strathearn 2019.
Events will be staged in a number of new areas, including ancient oak woodlands and stunning mountain scenery to the west near the pretty, picturesque, conservation village of St Fillans (in the northeast of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park).
Live Video Streaming
and GPS Tracking
The aim of the Livestream is to cover the breadth and depth of orienteering that we see every two years at the Scottish 6 Days. Therefore, the coverage will focus on different age classes each day. As well as the Livestream there will be GPS tracking available separately.
Please check if you have been selected to carry a tracker.
See below for the links to each days coverage.
Scottish 6 days Lochaber 2021
Save the date!
New and fresh out of the packet! The new Scottish 6 days Lochaber 2021 event website.
The 23rd Scottish 6 Days Orienteering event will be held in Lochaber between the 1st and 7th August 2021 (immediately following O-Ringen in Sweden). Lochaber is a scenic area in the Scottish Highlands, including Fort William, the outdoor capital of Scotland and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK.
Entries will open on the 1 December 2020. Save the date and start planning ahead for another great experience!
The Tick Project
TickApp is a citizen science project run by SRUC and the University of Edinburgh that aims to estimate people’s risk of exposure to ticks in Scotland. We are attending orienteering events to compare the number of ticks collected using survey transects (scientific method) with the number of ticks reported by people after orienteering in the same area. These data will be used to get better measures of how often people encounter ticks whilst doing outdoor activities, and help map tick distribution in Scotland.
